MyTime’s visit to Magdalen Farm

Back in the Summer, MyTime Young carers stayed with us for a residential stay. While visiting, they enjoyed a range of activities from spending time with our animals, den building in the woods, pond dipping, natural crafts, fire lighting, berry picking and more! As a memory of their visit, they created this video and shared […]
Homes in the most unlikely of places!

At the back of our polytunnel we discovered a Wren’s nest. Male wrens build multiple nests during spring, with females more likely to mate with the male that builds more nests. Watch this space to see if this nest is the chosen one!
Blackthorn

Blackthorn make up an important part of the hedgerows around Magdalen Farm. The start of Spring sees clouds of white blossom appear on the trees, providing vital nectar and pollen for the first emerging pollinators of the year. After pollination, these flowers will develop later on in the year into sloes!
Preparing our veg beds

Alongside adding compost, our outdoor vegetable beds get a layer of manure to help supress weeds and add nutrients into the soil ready for growing. We love the enthusiasm of our visitors making ‘manure castles’ to help us cover the beds!
First amphibians of the year spotted

We have sighted our first amphibians of 2026 with around 15 toads spotted spawning in our pond. The female will lay the eggs in a long string wrapped around vegetation to stop them floating away. This is a great indicator that Spring is on its way!
Signs of Spring have finally begun!

Last week’s beautiful blue skies and sunshine were a very welcomed addition to the farm. This was the view across one of our fields, Maypole
Wild weather

Despite the constant rain of 2026, our school residential groups have been making the most of exploring the stream in our woodland!
Orange Crocuses

These bright orange crocuses really do pop against the green of the grass. All the rain over the last few weeks mixed with the milder temperatures have meant our plants are starting to grow in the light of Spring arriving soon
Our Ruby Red Devon Steers

Our Ruby Red Devon steers certainly stand out against the blue skies and crisp frosty mornings
Our Leghorn Chickens

Back in October our leghorn chickens were making the most of the last dropped apples and scratching in the dirt. They are also extremely inquisitive, and decided to play a follow the leader game with our ranger May when she went to collect the egg
